MotorTrend recently talked to Maserati CEO Harald Wester, and it says the smaller two-door could cost around about the same as a V6-engined Quattroporte, a car with which the new model will share its platform. It will, of course, be considerably shorter, but it could accommodate the same engines, so we’re counting on the twin-turbo V6 to be present under its bonnet, and the V8 is a possibility too.
The Gran Sport would be more of a sports car, so it is aimed at the Porsche 911. However, it is also going up against another rival, the Jaguar F-Type, which has so far received positive comments. It’s also not bad to look at, but then again, Maserati’s sports cars have always looked special, and we expect the new model to be no different in that respect.
I do hope they move away from the design direction they’ve adopted with the Ghibli and Quattroporte, though. In my opinion, while they are handsome cars in their own right, but they can’t compare with what Maserati themselves were doing some 40 years ago for inspiration.
