Cola and Gobba Win Third Maserati Trofeo MC World Series Race at the ‘Ring

Renaud Kuppens managed to maintain his strong racing form from winning the first race of the Maserati Trofeo MC World Series at the Nurburgring, taking victory in the second race while Alberto Cola and Patrick Gobbo then secured the third and final race.

At the start of the third race, all the focus was on Kuppens as he started on pole position and had to reovertake Alan Simoni before definitively holding first place through to the compulsory pit stop period. During the pit stops, the team of Albert Cola and Patrick Gobbo managed to sneak through from fifth position into first thanks in part to the retirement of Ange Barde and tire problems of Mikkel Mac ahead of them.

Maserati Ghibli Makes First Public Video Appearance in Rotterdam

New Details on Maserati's Next Coupe that Gets Turbocharged V6 from Quattroporte

Maserati has seen that there is room in its future lineup for two distinct two-door models. One will continue in the mold of the current GranTurismo and GranCabrio models as GT cruisers with seating for four, while the other, dubbed the Gran Sport, will be a lighter, smaller and strictly two-seater model.

MotorTrend recently talked to Maserati CEO Harald Wester, and it says the smaller two-door could cost around about the same as a V6-engined Quattroporte, a car with which the new model will share its platform. It will, of course, be considerably shorter, but it could accommodate the same engines, so we’re counting on the twin-turbo V6 to be present under its bonnet, and the V8 is a possibility too.
